Retired US General Attributes Growing Pakistan-US Ties to India’s Arrogance
Retired U.S. Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt has said that the United States’ closer relationship with Pakistan is influenced by what he sees as India’s arrogance.
Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Kimmitt highlighted the strong rapport between President Donald Trump and Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir. “India’s attitude toward President Trump has contributed to the U.S. developing closer ties with Pakistan,” Kimmitt said. He added that the friendship between Trump and Munir should serve as a warning to India.
Tensions between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly rose after Trump claimed he had prevented a nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan—a claim India rejected, stating the ceasefire was negotiated directly between the two nations.
The strain came to a head during a June 17 phone call between Modi and Trump, after Trump left the G7 summit in Canada early and was unable to meet the Indian leader in person.
Field Marshal Munir’s visit to the United States in June included a rare one-on-one meeting with Trump at the White House. The visit coincided with heightened military tensions, where the U.S. helped facilitate a ceasefire after India carried out airstrikes in Pakistan, targeting those linked to the Pahalgam attack in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan responded with Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, shooting down multiple Indian jets.
Despite these developments, Modi emphasized that India and the U.S. continue to maintain strong relations. In a statement on social media, he wrote that he appreciated Trump’s “positive assessment” of their partnership and described the India-U.S. relationship as “very positive and forward-looking.”
Trump also reassured the public, stating, “India and the United States have a special relationship. There is nothing to worry about,” while reaffirming, “I will always be friends with Modi.”
