Trump Claims India and Russia “Lost” to China After Leaders’ Summit
US President Donald Trump on Friday suggested that India and Russia appear to be gravitating closer to China after their leaders met Chinese President Xi Jinping this week, signaling a potential shift in global alliances.
Trump’s Social Media Post Highlights Global Realignment
“Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, sharing a photo of the three leaders together at Xi’s summit.
When questioned about Trump’s remark, a spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi declined to comment. Officials from China and Russia were not immediately available for comment.
SCO Summit Brings Leaders Together
The summit, hosted by Xi in Tianjin, China, gathered over 20 leaders from non-Western nations under the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) framework. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi were among the attendees.
Footage from the event showed Putin and Modi holding hands as they approached Xi, before all three stood together for official photographs.
India-China Ties Strengthen Amid US-India Tensions
Modi’s warming relationship with China comes at a time when US-India relations have cooled, influenced by trade disputes and diplomatic disagreements during the Trump administration. Earlier this week, Trump expressed disappointment with Putin but stated he was unconcerned about the growing partnership between Russia and China.
