Torrential Rains Break Karachi’s Heatwave as More Showers Sweep Pakistan

Relief at Last for Karachi, but Warnings Ahead Nationwide

After enduring a prolonged spell of scorching, humid weather, Karachi residents woke up to life-saving relief: heavy rain early Tuesday morning. Light showers began overnight in several neighborhoods and quickly intensified by dawn, refreshing areas such as Tariq Road, North Nazimabad, Clifton, Defence, Shahrah‑e‑Faisal, Appliances Airport, Malir, Landhi, Korangi, and dozens more.

Elsewhere, neighborhoods including Gulistan‑e‑Jauhar, Gulshan‑e‑Iqbal, Federal B Area, Scheme 33, Safora Chowrangi, and others also saw heavy rainfall. In North Nazimabad, storms brought with them dramatic lightning and thunder, initially sparking concern before delivering welcome coolness.

While Karachi embraced this much-needed welcome change, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reports ongoing heavy monsoon activity northward. Areas like Kashmir, Gilgit‑Baltistan, Murree, and Galiyat are expected to face more torrential rain over the next 24 hours. Urban flooding risks loom in cities such as Quetta, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, and even further south in Thatta and Tharparkar.

Current Morning Temperatures

  • Islamabad & Muzaffarabad: 24 °C

  • Lahore: 28 °C

  • Karachi: 31 °C

  • Peshawar: 26 °C

  • Quetta: 23 °C

  • Gilgit: 18 °C

  • Murree: 16 °C

In neighboring Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, clouds and thunderstorms are expected across Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, and surrounding areas. Flood early morning temperatures ranged from 10 °C in Leh to 25 °C in Jammu.
