India Beat Oman by 21 Runs to Stay Unbeaten in Asia Cup 2025 Group Stage
India continued their dominant run in the 2025 Asia Cup, defeating Oman by 21 runs in their final group-stage clash to secure the top spot in Group A. The win also confirmed India’s unbeaten streak heading into the Super Four stage.
This was the first-ever meeting between India and Oman in any cricket format. Despite already being eliminated, Oman put up a spirited fight before bowing out of the tournament. Along with them, Afghanistan, UAE, and Hong Kong also failed to progress. Joining India in the Super Fours are Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
Samson leads India’s batting charge
Batting first, India posted a competitive 188/8. Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, promoted to number three after not batting in the previous two matches, made the most of his chance by scoring a fluent 56 off 45 balls.
He shared crucial partnerships with Abhishek Sharma (38 off 15), Axar Patel (26 off 13), and Tilak Varma (29 off 18) to build momentum. Oman’s standout bowler was left-arm pacer Faisal Shah, who impressed with figures of 2-23.
Oman’s fightback falls short
Chasing 189, Oman lost Jatinder Singh (32 off 33) to Kuldeep Yadav in the ninth over. But the innings came alive with a blistering partnership between Aamir Kaleem (64 off 46) and Hammad Mirza (51 off 33), who put together a 93-run stand off 55 balls.
At one stage, Oman needed just 56 runs from 18 deliveries, sparking real hope of an upset. However, Kaleem’s dismissal in the 18th over—caught by Hardik Pandya off Harshit Rana—shifted the momentum back to India.
Pandya then removed Mirza, and Arshdeep Singh claimed the final breakthrough, dismissing Vinayak Shukla to not only seal victory but also become the first Indian bowler to take 100 wickets in men’s T20Is.
Super Fours line-up confirmed
With this win, India remain the team to beat in the tournament. The Super Four stage begins on Saturday, 20 September, when Sri Lanka face Bangladesh. India’s much-anticipated clash with arch-rivals Pakistan follows on Sunday, 21 September.
The four teams will play each other in a round-robin format, with the top two advancing to the Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai on Sunday, 28 September.
