South Africa Beat Pakistan by 25 Runs to Seal ODI Series in Lahore

Despite a brilliant century from opener Sidra Amin, Pakistan fell 25 runs short in their chase as South Africa clinched the rain-affected second ODI at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Friday, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Pakistan’s chase falls short

Set a revised DLS target of 313 in 46 overs, Pakistan showed resilience but were eventually bowled out for 287 in 44.4 overs.

Sidra Amin once again stood tall for the hosts, scoring a sparkling 122 off 110 balls, which included 13 fours. She shared a crucial 146-run fourth-wicket stand with Natalia Pervaiz (73 off 89), keeping Pakistan in contention until the 38th over.

However, once Sidra departed, South Africa wrestled back control. Pakistan’s middle and lower order collapsed, losing seven wickets for just 40 runs, ending their hopes of leveling the series. Omaima Sohail (43) was the only other batter to make a notable contribution.

South Africa’s bowling effort

South Africa’s bowlers struck at key moments, led by Nadine de Klerk (3 wickets). Chloe Tryon and Marizanne Kapp picked up two apiece, while Nondumiso Shangase and Masabata Klaas chipped in with one wicket each to finish off Pakistan’s resistance.

Brits and Wolvaardt dominate with the bat

Earlier, South Africa set the tone with a mammoth 292/3 in 46 overs after rain shortened the match. The visitors were powered by an incredible 260-run opening stand between Tazmin Brits (171 not out off 141) and skipper Laura Wolvaardt (100 off 129).

Brits smashed 20 fours and 4 sixes in her career-best knock, carrying her bat through the innings to earn the Player of the Match award. Wolvaardt’s century provided the perfect platform before she was dismissed by Diana Baig, who finished as Pakistan’s only wicket-taker with 2 for 45.

Series sealed ahead of final ODI

The 25-run win under DLS rules gave South Africa a 2-0 series lead, ensuring the visitors claim the ODI series with one match to spare. The third and final ODI will be played on Monday, where Pakistan will look to salvage pride and avoid a clean sweep.
